Ready for August 12?
August 12, 2026, is fast approaching. As of that date, only packaging that complies with the requirements of the PPWR in effect at that time may be placed on the market in the EU. Companies must demonstrate this compliance with a declaration of conformity and have the relevant technical documentation available. To this end, packaging specifications, material compositions, and supporting evidence must be systematically compiled. It is particularly important to minimize the use of substances of concern—including, among others, heavy metals and PFAS.
We help companies stay on top of things, prioritize requirements, and approach technical documentation in a structured way. This allows them to identify gaps before the deadline and address them effectively. Feel free to contact us if you need assistance!
And what happens next?
However, the work related to the PPWR for businesses will not be complete as of August 12. Additional requirements will follow in the coming years, such as those regarding labeling, recyclability, packaging minimization, and the use of recycled materials. We strongly recommend that you address these issues early on so that you can better plan any necessary packaging adjustments and reduce regulatory risks. We would be happy to assist you with our experience in structured packaging optimization.
Deepening Knowledge and Understanding of the Interrelationships Involved in Safe Food Packaging
As part of the European research project 23IND13 ScreenFood, we are hosting a series of free, public webinars. In these webinars, we will examine various PPWR requirements, with a focus on ensuring that the packaging in question remains safe for contact with food. To this end, we link PPWR content with ongoing metrological research, material-related high-risk potentials, and advanced analytical approaches for identifying potential contaminants. The first session on PFAS has already taken place, but the webinar was recorded and is available for you to watch. The following additional webinars are planned:
- Fall 2026: Bio-based and compostable materials
- Q1 2027: Use of Recycled Materials
- Q2 2027: Recyclability
We’re staying on top of things and helping companies achieve PPWR compliance. Would you like to stay informed about our webinars? Then follow us on LinkedIn.
