With its current Smart City strategy, the city of Aarau is pursuing the goal of taking on a pioneering role in the resource-efficient economy and the creation of closed loops. As part of this strategy, the procurement, use, reuse and disposal of products is being rethought in order to sensitize society and the economy to the topic of the circular economy.
Various circular economy strategies are already being implemented or are being planned. However, there is no central summary of these measures, which makes it difficult to obtain a comprehensive overview of the initiatives already implemented and planned. The city of Aarau has therefore decided to bundle its efforts in the area of the circular economy and supplement them where necessary.
In this project, we have the privilege of accompanying the city of Aarau.
As a first step, existing measures for the circular economy will be compiled and possible further measures identified. This was done in workshops with the heads of the various areas of the city administration as part of a Reffnet consultation.
In a second step, specific recommendations for action are derived based on the results of the Reffnet consultation. These recommendations are discussed and refined in collaboration with the department heads (e.g. civil engineering, structural engineering, urban development).
The measures will then be ecologically evaluated and prioritized based on these results. In addition, time horizons for the implementation of the various measures will be defined.
